Memorial day weekend 2014, I was hospitalized for eleven days. Nine months later, I gave birth to Debt Freedom. I had to be induced because it seemed like it didn’t want to come out.
The First Trimester
The first trimester was filled with bed rest and so much sickness. I saw so many specialist from Jacksonville to Wilmington with all test coming back as if nothing was wrong. I meditated on Romans 13:8 and Isaiah 53:5 day and night.
The Second Trimester
During the second trimester I received a lot of negativity when the news of my pregnancy was shared with the media and I almost gave up. The Holy Spirit led me to Matthew 5:10-16. This pregnancy was becoming more than I was ready for but God chose me for a reason.
People who didn’t know me, encouraged me to keep moving forward. I went through Lamaze classes (Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University) so I could prepare myself for what was about to come in just a few months. There were other couples there I knew but I was there by myself. The classes were nine weeks, two hours a week. I had perfect attendance.
The Third Trimester
In my third trimester, I gave two financial classes at two different churches. I was interviewed by others who wanted to hear my story. I was pushed way out of my comfort zone. I was ready to push even more because I saw the end coming. I buckled down and cut out unnecessary expenses. I spoke life to Debt Freedom everyday. He began to kick me and move even more. I could hardly contain myself. I posted notes around my house and in my vehicle. I wanted others to get pregnant too but so many weren’t ready.
The Holy Spirit quickly reminded me that they will get pregnant when the time was right and when they were ready for their financial delivery.
It’s a Debt Free Life
On March 13, 2015, I could hardly control myself. My water broke at midnight and by 10am, the final consumer debt was paid and Debt Freedom was delivered. I cried tears of joy. I told my kids before they went to school that before they came home, Debt Freedom would be in our family. I received his birth certificate (car title) in the mail a few weeks later.
I have to feed Debt Freedom for six months by building up my emergency fund. He’s getting stronger each paycheck as I continue to do my zero based budget and use the envelope system.
God delivered me from sixteen years of debt. I went through some stuff that would have taken others out. Some of the stuff I brought upon myself because I was financially illiterate and other stuff was allowed to happen to me. God knew what I could and couldn’t handle. I was in denial for so many years. My strength was renewed daily through Jesus Christ and I’m so thankful for His grace and mercy. It kept me many nights as the tears hit the pillow case. I continue to surround myself with Debt Freedom support groups. It’s exciting to see others carrying their Debt Freedom babies.
Three months after delivering Debt Freedom, I still know that God is a healer, deliverer, and a restorer for those who believe. Philippians 4:13 is on the wall in my room as a daily reminder.
